'AIDS
Trust Cymru’ was established by a group of individuals
from South Wales, who themselves are HIV + or have
AIDS.
In 1992 there were very few services available locally
for people with HIV and AIDS and so ‘AIDS Trust
Cymru’ was established to try and address this
need.
'AIDS TRUST Cymru' aims to facilitate a living network
of individuals, helping themselves and one another
in dealing with the challenges brought about by HIV
and AIDS.
The
organisations aim is to turn a positive diagnosis
for HIV into a positive outlook on life and living
with the virus.
We
can help by:
- Providing
a safe confidential environment for people to meet
and relax
- Changing
beliefs by informing people of the facts about HIV
and AIDS
- Changing
beliefs by assisting people affected by HIV to gain
a more positive approach to life
- Providing
a central bank of information at the Centre on HIV
and AIDS including books, newsletters, and uptodate
information on self help, treatment and trials
- Providing
links to other agencies and support groups
- Providing
the opportunity for people to have fun and relax
by organising social events
- Removing
individuals for isolation and fear by helping them
to develop and build social networks and friendships;
- Offering
our service to anyone affected by HIV and AIDS regardless
of their gender, sexuality, lifestyle or racial
origin
- To
provide counselling and advice services for anyone
living with HIV infection and their partners, families
and carers
- To
provide peer support for everyone coming into contact
with HIV;
- To
promote the sexual and mental health of both those
who are HIV positive and those who may be at risk
of becoming so
